Ten Important Things to Know Before You Join a Weight Loss Program
May 23, 2007
1. What is my BMI and how do I calculate it?
BMI means Body Mass Index. The value is associated with body fat and health risks.
Healthy weight is defined as a BMI equal to or greater than 19 and less than 25 among all people aged 20 or over. Between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight; more than 30 is considered obese.
To determine body mass index: [Weight in pounds ÷ Height in inches ÷ Height in inches] x 703.
Fractions and ounces must be entered as decimal values.
The metric formula is: BMI= Body Weight(kg)/height(m)2. Remember that: 2.2 lbs.=1 kg and 39.4 ins.=1m.
For example, if you are 1.75 M tall and weigh 80 kg. , your BMI will be = 80/1.75X1.75 = 26.122, i.e. slightly overweight (Always keep in mind that “obesity” is defined as a BMI greater than 30) 2. What are carbs, proteins, fats?
Carbohydrates provide your body with its basic fuel, very much like a car engine and gasoline. Glucose goes directly into the cells, which convert it into the energy they need.
There are two types of carbohydrates:
Why Sit Here Until I Die?
May 22, 2007
The bible tells a story about four men who sat at the entrance of the city’s gate dying with leprosy, an incurable disease which causes terribly visible swelling and sores on the skin, only then to eat inward to the bones. Because of this contagious and incurable disease, these lepers sat outside of the city because they were not permitted to live within the city. These men were faced with a fatal disease, were outcasts, and were starving because of a feminine in the land. Such a hopeless life and no perceived future, would make the average person throw in the towel and just give up on life — but not these men.
Sitting and examining their situation, they realized that just simply sitting and doing nothing would result in having and being nothing, so they asked themselves the question, “Why do we sit here until we die?” They knew that if they entered the city, they would die because of the feminine. They also knew that if they sat there and did nothing, that they would die. What did they do? They made the decision to ACT.

The Things That Stop Most People Presenting in Public & How to Overcome Them
by: Maria Davies
Gerald R. Ford said “If I went back to college again, I’d concentrate on two areas: learning to write and learning to speak before an audience. Nothing in life is more important than the ability to communicate effectively.”
It’s the number one skill that’s guaranteed to position you head and shoulders above the competition, yet it’s frequently overlooked, according to female speaker, Patricia Fripp.
My own take on having the ability to speak well in public is that it’s probably the single most powerful thing you can learn to do that gives you the ammunition to say “If I can do that, I can do anything”.
If you’ve ever marvelled at the abilities of a great presenter, the clever use of words to draw pictures, the confidence and charisma that exudes from the platform and the awe in which they are held, you’ll agree with the above statements.
The Internet Behind Your Eyes

The Internet Behind Your Eyes
by: Mike Lindley
Imagine the Internet is some living creature and you receive messages through your own brain’s USB port. What would you permit yourself to download?
You wouldn’t want your head to be filled with web site information that doesn’t interest you nor would do you any harm, would you? Maybe you would benefit from a combination of practical self help and manifestation.
So you’ve downloaded your list of information into your memory. You choose to run the first application. But which one would you click first?
Maybe you would run “Happy family version one” to find it will not co exist with “Down the pub with my mates version three” nor “Being honest with my partner version 12″ causes a malfunction with “You will tell me if, version six”. Have some fun with these ideas.
Such conflicts in your life are like viruses in your PC. You pull up your firewall. We all know of individuals who live a restricted life created by their own experiences. You are limited only by your own thoughts, so are you at that point where your goals, desires and dreams keep disconnecting? Are you or others draining your power?
This Magic Moment
May 20, 2007
Remember when you began dating your wife or girlfriend?
Those moments when the touch of her hair, the wisp of a kiss or the electricity you felt when holding hands? Do you still feel the same way or do you feel that you are missing some of those feelings?
Of course you still love your mate, probably more than ever before, but unfortunately most of the excitement has, somehow, disappeared.
You have fallen into the same day, in, day out, doldrums. Time has passed and you are into a routine, and by doing so have lost that special feeling you got just by smelling her scent or hearing her voice.
Well, stop thinking about "what was" and start putting some of the excitement and romance back into your life !
Many successful couples, who have been together for many years, know the secret of a successful relationship is always finding ways to keep it fresh, and what I am going to discuss is just one way that you can put the "oomph" back into your lives .
Questioning Cardio for Weight Loss?
May 19, 2007
Q: I’ve heard you mention that you don’t need tons of cardio to burn stubborn abdominal fat. Okay, I can live with that, but you’ve also said that it isn’t absolutely necessary to perform direct ab work either. What gives?
A: If you want to build a serious set of abdominals, routinely perform the following exercises and their variations: squats, deadlifts, chin-ups, and standing military presses. These multi-joint movements require a strong contribution from the abdominals to stabilize the core, particularly when heavy loads are used. It is not uncommon to hear clients complain of abdominal soreness a day or two after performing multiple sets with a decent weight of the chin-up or standing military press exercise - the ab prestretch will tap into fibers you never thought existed! And remember, your abdominals act as a natural girdle, or weight belt if you will, when performing all exercises, particularly squats and deadlifts. These muscles act as a bridge between your upper and lower body and are heavily recruited as stabilizers.

Atheists Agnostics and Evolutionists - The Worst Gamblers in the World
by: Rev Michael Bresciani
I have seen the odds of having the right amino acids and other components coming together from the primordial ooze and creating life mathematically computed. It produces a number followed by so many zeros that if I used the smallest font on my computer it would take the rest of this article to write them in, plus another several hundred pages to record them all.
Mathematics being a far more exact science than some others there is little room for speculation, pontifical statements or what is commonly called prior philosophic postulation. Such is what is commonly used by evolutionists, archaeologist, paleontologists and others when making statements about the beginning of life. In the plainest language, scientists who use prior postulation are making statements that require faith to believe - just like a preacher who proclaims the gospel.
I never did well in math. It seemed I could comprehend the value of literature and philosophy better. But I am not so foolish as to disregard the findings of the math crowd. Indeed, I rather respect them and their no-nonsense findings.
The Final Chapter
May 17, 2007
Several months ago, I read an article about a 22 year old, successful young lady who died a premature death in a plane crash. The more I read this article, the heavier my heart became because she died in the midst of her formative years. Equally tear-jerking was the fact that she died before completing a book that she was writing — before completing her final chapter. Right now, your book is being written — and you are the author. Every moment that passes, every day that appears and vanishes, your pages are being written. Every word you speak, every action you take — shapes page after page in your book of life. How you live and how you treat others also shape the pages of your book — from cover to cover. In retrospect, perhaps the beginning of your book may not have been written well, because of mistakes, or unwise decisions — but you can finish a bestseller. You can finish a bestseller, because you are the starring character and you, by your present and future actions, control how the final chapters of your book will read. You can finish as the winner by doing the things that you love and not taking your life, or others for granted. Start a new chapter today — a chapter that will give you and others a delight to read. Enjoy who you are and what you do. Keep writing and live life to the fullest. How does your book read thus far — and — what will your FINAL chapter say? Copyright 2002 by Audrina Jones Bunton. Stress Control: Tough Leadership vs. Easy Does It
May 16, 2007
Tough leaders are usually seen as ogres. Their exacting demands and high expectations add to stress levels. And their obsessive compulsive behavior can have a negative effect on results if they don’t understand how to control stress to get positive results without serious negative reactions.
The same kind of leadership challenge can be found in the Army. Management at all levels are faced with the decision of “tough leadership” or “easy does it” in preparing troops for combat and on the battlefield.
Good military leaders work hard to balance the encouragment of positive stress with the debilitating negative stress they confront. The best leaders know how to use positive stress to get the most out of their troops. And they know how to tone things down to when negative stress threatens productivity.
The Army is fanatic about training officers and sergeants to take care of the troops. And these well-trained leaders are fanatic about carrying out their responsibilities. The soldiers in their command don’t always realize why these leaders are so focused on having everything 100% ready — personnel, equipment, and training.
Can You Drink Your Way To Good Health?
May 15, 2007
Many years ago I became convinced of the need to take vitamin and mineral supplements. Although I tried to eat healthy meals, mixing salads, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains as wisely as I could, numerous studies pointed out the need to add nutritional supplements to my diet.
Major Study
The major study that caught my attention most strongly was the 1977-1978 USDA National Food Consumption Survey (Crocetti and Guthrie, 1982). This study surveyed the 3-day dietary records of over 21,500 individuals. Among other findings the study showed that not one person consumed 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowance for the top ten nutrients.
That was a rather shocking finding. Not one single person! I prided myself in eating well, but I decided that it would be a good idea to supplement my meals with additional vitamins and minerals.
Taking Tablets
I started out by taking a single multivitamin daily. Then, over the years I added additional tablets of antioxidants, namely vitamin C and vitamin E. In more recent years I added calcium tablets and B vitamin tablets to my routine. As you can guess, the result was that I was taking 5 tablets of supplements twice a day.
