Managing Cravings with EFT
June 30, 2007
There are several ways to manage cravings. You can:
- Attempt to stop eating the food you crave entirely (out of sight out of mind).
- Modify your eating habits around a particular food, i.e. cut back on the quantity or how often you indulge.
- Use EFT to end the attachment you have to this particular food.
1. Stop Eating the Food you CraveEliminating the offending food entirely is rarely successful. We can only limit ourselves for so long before we go crazy, eating everything in sight to make up for the deprivation. This also introduces deprivation and control issues, which many have trouble with leftover from childhood. Would it be better to learn to enjoy your favorites without losing control around them?
2. Modify your Eating HabitsModifying your behavior can be successful, but it can also be difficult because even though we want to change, it seems that despite our best efforts, we still find ourselves craving the same things, day after day. It is the “how” that stops us. How can we change a behavior that is a habitual response? How can we stop doing what we don’t want to do? There are literally thousands of diet and weight loss books and most offer nothing more useful than the “eat less, exercise more” advice. If it were simply a matter of doing what we know we should do, there would be no obesity epidemic, but it’s not that simple. We need to know HOW.
A View from the Mountain

A View from the Mountain
by: Mark Susnow
For the last seven or eight years I have enjoyed a recreational activity that gives me exercise and satisfies my longing to be in nature. When I Mountain Bike I feel exhilarated, refreshed and proud of myself. Putting on my biking clothes, oiling my bike and riding down the street are the beginning of a ritual that has evolved over time. Within 10 minutes I am immersed in nature on the trails of Mt Tam. After all these years I know them pretty well. As I am riding I enjoy the wildlife, the majestic redwoods, the flowing streams, and am transported to a different world that allows me the opportunity to leave behind all of my worldly concerns. As part of this ritual I end my ride at the health food store and enjoy a healthy drink.
On this day I ran into my young friend Bobby. Bobby is an avid rider who rides his bike daily to the college but isn’t that familiar with some of the trails on the mountain. I offered to show him some of my favorites. But soon after we set a date for our ride I started thinking about what trails I could show him that would be challenging enough for him but not too challenging for me. I was concerned because I knew Bobby had a lot more energy than me and I would be stretched out of my comfort zone.
Know Your Bodybuilding Supplement - L-Arginine
June 29, 2007
Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid that the body cannot make naturally. It is found in nuts, seeds, chocolate and raisins.
Arginine is used by the body in the execution of many important physiological processes including hormone secretion, output of growth hormone, removal of toxins from the body and enhancement of the immune system. It is also a precursor of nitric oxide which vasodiolates vessels in the body. For this reason arginine is often used to treat conditions such as angina, high blood pressure, cardiac disease, sexual dysfunction and infertility. Recent research has also highlighted arginine’s ability to scavenge free radicals, remove bad cholesterol, enhance fat metabolism and regulate salt levels.
There are several reasons why arginine appeals to bodybuilders:
1. It prevents the retention of water under the skin thus minimizing bloating and helping to create a ripped appearance.
2. It helps the body to retain nitrogen that is essential to the muscle building process.
3. Its vasodilating abilities support muscle growth.
4. It enhances protein synthesis.
5. It helps to boost the immune system allowing harder training and minimizing the minor illnesses that come from overtraining.
Soulstretch: Raising the Bar on Nobility and Nicety
June 28, 2007
In the make-believe world, too, fiction and films are filled with flawed characters fighting their way to selfish goals. Pick up any book on how to write novels and short stories and you see the word "conflict" in bold.
For mass conflict, consider that people love war. Even the blasted bodies of innocent babies in a battle zone do not prompt the laying down of arms or the hammering of pistols into plowshares.
It doesn’t have to be that way. The change starts with secret questions. You have to be silently skeptical of all you’ve been taught. You must privately challenge every authority and doubt the word of every teacher, messenger, mystic or prophet to get to truth at rock bottom. This appeal to the secret, silent, private side of your nature means you are about to get acquainted with your soul
Soulstretch is a term we have coined to help you extend your goals to new heights of glory. Why settle for average when you can be great
Top Treadmills Reviewed - A Comparison of Price And Performance
June 27, 2007
A treadmill can be an excellent exercise machine, providing a convenient and relatively inexpensive way to stay fit. But with over a dozen different manufacturers out there, each with a collection of different styles of equipment, it can be difficult to know which treadmill is best for you.
How much you can spend and what type of exercise you plan to do will help determine which price range and manufacturers are right for you. It is important to research the specific features you need based on whether you plan to walk, jog or do all out running training. But a good place to start is often to get an overview of the manufacturers out there and the cost of a treadmill. Below is an overview of ten of the most popular treadmill models and their general ratings in the industry.
A company called Icon Health and Fitness is perhaps the largest and most well known treadmill manufacturer in the world. They also make other types of exercise equipment. In the treadmill realm, they produce Reebok, NordicTrack, Weslo, Proform and Image brands. All five of these rank among the most popular and offer consumers a range or prices and options.
The Happiness Habit

The Happiness Habit
by: Graham Smith
‘Most people are about as happy as they make up their mind to be.’ Abraham Lincoln
I’m happy. My Email software has developed a frustrating problem, it’s been raining for days, the car has sprung a leak which will be very expensive to fix - and I’m still happy.
How can I tell?
How can anyone know when they’re happy? What does happiness mean? Predictably, the term means different things to different people at different times in their lives. For myself, I like the definition ‘An enduring feeling of contentment and capability’ - a sense that life is good on the whole, and that you can deal with whatever happens.
What Do You Really Want?
Since Aristotle, many thinkers have concluded that everything we do is ultimately aimed at achieving happiness. We save for a holiday, long for an impressive car, have another drink, get to know popular people, strive for success - all because we think it will make us happy. A friend once told me, while I was hoping to sign a recording contract, ‘Careful what you wish for - you may get it’. I was offered the contract, signed it and almost immediately it became a disaster. Soon after, I was spending a lot of effort on getting released from it. We tend to confuse what we actually want with things we think will get it for us - and we can learn from our experience.
What Does Meditation Music Do To You?
June 25, 2007
Personally I belief that it is possible for anyone to live a life of happiness, inner peace, and outward success, no matter what their present or past circumstances.
There are very real methods anyone can use to achieve these things-if they are willing to make the necessary changes in how they see themselves and their relationship to the rest of the world, and take the necessary actions.
All traditions of meditation flow from one premise: that the entire universe is made of one all-encompassing energy, intelligent and aware, existing forever as the source of everything. Because there is nothing outside of it, say the mystics, because of its completeness, this energy has nothing to get or need, nothing to fear. Simply because it is its nature to do so, this one energy continually spins itself out as the entire, infinite universe. The very nature of this energy, it is said, is contentment, love, peace, happiness, and perfection.
The totality of this energy, say the mystics, is who you really are; your seeming separateness, an illusion. Saints and sages have for centuries attempted to describe to humankind a state of awareness where this feeling of oneness with everything in the universe is the predominant experience.
Eating Food Just to Be Rid of It
June 24, 2007
What to Do with the Leftovers?Okay, tell me if you’ve ever done this: It’s Monday late afternoon. You decided yesterday that starting today you were going to 1) eat right, and 2) start to get regular exercise, and 3) give up all your bad habits. So, you’re picking things up around the house and starting to notice all the little bits and pieces of leftovers from the past weekend. Namely, cookies here, and small bits of candy there. In my house today I noticed I had three large shortbread cookies (I’m overly fond of shortbread cookies with icing), several bags of the candy that resemble real rocks which I keep saying I want to put in a jar, but I haven’t found just the right jar (for display, you know), and the leftovers from the latest summer picnic, which in my case is about five pounds of fruit salad - not bad in itself, but I can only eat so much fruit salad.
And Then There’s the Wine
Of course, I had to buy some wine at a tasting on Saturday (I always buy it, don’t know why I think those wine tasting’s are such a great deal - they always entice me to buy), and now there’s an open bottle waiting.

Does Your Puppy “Wet” On The Floor? - Five Elements to Performance Management
by: Richard L. Williams, Ph.D.
Perhaps you have heard the phrase, “Push the Envelope.” Well, in this article that is exactly what I’m going to do. Rest assured, I’ll do it as carefully as possible, because I was criticized for calling three women “ladies” in Minneapolis; I was criticized (also in Minneapolis) for asking the only gray-haired person in a workshop if experience is a good teacher; I was criticized in Washington DC for being too nice to people; and I was criticized in Philadelphia for not being “explicitly clear” that a librarian could be both male or female. So, in pushing the envelope here I’ll proceed cautiously.
My youngest daughter and her husband recently purchased an eight-week old puppy. With the smell of freshly installed carpet still in the air, these new parents quickly sought advice about the fastest way to house-train their new addition. While observing this process it brought to mind an analogy I’ve used in leadership, performance coaching (http://www.cmoe.com/performance-coaching.htm) and performance management workshops. It’s this analogy that needs prudent wording in this article.
Choosing The Right Bodybuilding Supplement
June 23, 2007
Before wasting your money on a pile of bodybuilding supplements you really need to work out what you are hoping to achieve. Don’t lose sight of the fact that sound nutrition forms the basis of any muscle building program and no amount of supplementation with the latest and greatest products will make up for bad eating habits. The bottom line is, bodybuilding supplements should be used IN ADDITION to regular food, not INSTEAD OF it.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s go on to think about what supplements could be of use and this is something that can only be determined by your physical and performance goals. Don’t make the mistake of copying your training partners or believing all the garbage spouted in magazine ads. Decide first what you want to achieve and then choose the supplements that will help you reach your goals.
To help you make an informed choice, the most popular and useful bodybuilding supplements available today are listed below, broadly divided into two goal-related categories.
Determined to build muscle? This cannot be achieved without dedication, sheer hard work and sound nutrition. With a solid foundation in place you can help the process along with supplements like creatine, whey protein, prohormones, testosterone boosters and amino acids.
