Addiction Recovery: The Journey From Intervention To Rehab
 by: CalRehabGuide Staff

Addiction recovery can be a long, hard battle for both the person fighting the disease and their loved ones. In fact, the first step in the journey toward recovery is often initiated by the addict’s loved ones in the form of an intervention. If successfully orchestrated, the intervention will lead to the addict receiving the help he so desperately needs.

* Preparing for an Intervention

An intervention should be performed as soon as possible in order to help an addict recover from his disease. Friends and family should never wait until the addict reaches rock bottom as by then, it may be too late. The devastating effects of addiction, such as financial ruin, loss of family, imprisonment, and even death, may have already taken hold of the addict’s life. The sooner the intervention occurs, the more pain and suffering can be avoided.

An intervention is one way family and friends can convince the person they love to seek the help they so desperately need. In order to successfully facilitate an intervention, the family and friends need to first learn how to communicate in a language the addict can understand.

The Role Of Whey Protein In Achieving Significant Muscle Gain

August 5, 2007

Most bodybuilders would agree that supplementing with whey protein is an important element in achieving serious muscle gains. This article will examine the facts relating to whey protein as a supplement and help you decide whether you need to follow this particular strategy.

Whey protein is produced during the process that sees milk turned into cheese. It is also found naturally in dairy products, eggs, soy and vegetable proteins but none of these compares in quality to whey protein powder. It also scores highly in providing the branched chain amino acids (BCAA’s) that are important in the building and retention of muscle.

Whey protein is highly favored by bodybuilders because it provides the necessary building blocks to produce the amino acids that the body uses to build lean muscle tissue. Many studies have shown that whey protein contains the perfect combination of amino acids, in just the right concentration for optimal performance in the body. It is also thought that whey protein has a role as an anti-oxidant and immune system builder.

Have You Given Up on Weight Loss?

Have You Given Up on Weight Loss?

by Greg Landry, M.S

I receive several email messages every day

from people who have given up on weight loss.

They are at wits end and they don’t know

what to do. They’ve “tried it all” and they

believe it’s impossible for them to lose

weight.

Many of them have lost weight and gained it

all back, and more. Some of them have struggled

with losing weight all their lives and have

never been successful with it. One lady from

Alabama wrote to me last spring, “I have been

trying to lose about sixty pounds for over 23

years. I quit! I’m resolved to the fact that

I will be fat for the rest of my life”

How saddening that comment is. but I’m happy

to tell you this lady, with a little

guidance, is now 65 pounds lighter than she

was one year ago.. and she has some muscle

tone. Needless to say, she no longer believes

that she’ll be fat for the rest of her life.

Why Should You Find Your Life’s Purpose?

Why Should You Find Your Life’s Purpose?
 by: Ineke Van Lint

Many spiritual traditions revolve around one central question: “Who am I ?” Even the business world ponders this crucial matter. According to business gurus, the first step on the road to success is asking yourself this very question:“What’s my mission? What on Earth am I doing? Am I in the right place?”

If you can’t answer these questions, then you are wasting 90% of your time and energy doing things that are neither your mission nor your business! You will feel an inner anxiety, urging you to search for the deeper meaning of your life.

If you consider living to be painful, if you feel dissatisfied, if you feel “there must be more than this”, if you feel out of place in this world, then you have not yet found the purpose of your life.

If you are questioning the meaning of life, if you can’t find inner peace, if you are not satisfied with choices you’ve made in life, if you don’t know which way to turn, if you feel your life is stuffed with things that aren’t of your choosing and that don’t satisfy you, if you often feel burdened and bad-tempered, if you “have everything to feel happy” but don’t, then it is time for you to discover your true self!

The Truth of Reactions

August 3, 2007

In my life, I have tried to be Good and Pure and True. In these qualities, I have failed miserably. Why is it so hard to be good? Why is it so difficult to act in harmony with our mental ideals?

From the sea of Emptiness, everything arises.

Many people on the spiritual path eventually come face to face with their “Dark Side” - that part of themselves that is very, un-enlightened, selfish and spoiled. Reactions are a great mirror. We shout at the driver who cut us off. We take advantage of our employees because they really need the job. We cheat on our diets, our spouses, and our promises. We want to be good. We want to live in harmony with our spiritual nature, but sometimes, sometimes when lust, fear, or power overwhelm us - a demon seems to take charge of our actions. He makes us do things we regret if others see, and “forget” if others don’t.

The lion kills the gazelle. The ice kills the last dinosaur. Man loves Woman. Man kills Man. Man creates monuments to the Gods.

Is it the Right Thing or the Wrong Thing to Do?

Is it the Right Thing or the Wrong Thing to Do?
 by: Tony Mase

Defined by Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, as “the branch of axiology - one of the four major branches of philosophy, alongside metaphysics, epistemology, and logic - which attempts to understand the nature of morality; to define that which is right from that which is wrong”…

Ethics is a hot topic nowadays.

Books, magazine articles and syndicated newspaper columns have been written about it.

Entire audio programs and seminars have been built around it.

Recently, in a single month, not including tens of thousands of related searches using the term, the word “ethics”, in and of itself, was searched on 37,111 times… just on the Yahoo Search Network alone!

This quest “to define that which is right from that which is wrong” isn’t limited to individuals.

In an effort to determine “right” from “wrong”, companies, government agencies and institutions have brought in ethics consultants, formed ethics committees and hired ethics executives.

Now…

Quite frankly…

I don’t understand what’s so complicated about it.

As I see it…

Jesus, the Master Teacher, made this whole matter of ethics very simple.

Faster Fat Loss Thats Healthy

August 1, 2007

I received a telephone call from a lady

last week. Her first word was “heeeelp”!

She was on a weight loss program and

only losing about one half pound per week.

She wanted to speed things up but didn’t

want to do anything that was unhealthy.

Here’s what I told her:

If you’re interested in losing fat, you’re

objective is to create a daily caloric

deficit. For example, If you’re consuming

1700 calories per day, and expending 2000

calories per day, your caloric deficit is

300 calories.

So, if you’d like to increase your daily

caloric deficit, you have two options; to

decrease your caloric intake by eating

fewer calories, or increase your caloric

expenditure via more activity / exercise.

However, you cannot decrease your daily

caloric intake much lower than 1200 to

1500 or so without potentially creating

health and metabolism problems. So, the

remaining factor in the deficit equation

is caloric expenditure through increased

activity / exercise.

The good news is that you can substantially
