Turn Off The TV If You Want More Time
by: Barbara Bartlein
Looking for more time? Glance no further than the TV. The latest research on television viewing demonstrates that the average American watches 1,669 hours of the tube each year. That is about 70 days per year according to the Statistical Abstract of the United States.
That’s right, 10 weeks per year; watching television. The study does not include all the hours the TV is simply in the background adding to the noise pollution. It’s direct viewing time. Mind numbing time watching re-runs, reality TV and commercials.
This is time you never get back. These are hours that could be used to learn something new, be with your kids, exercise and weight train, give back to community, or read a book. For that matter, you could write a book. It is hours for tennis, golf, travel, hobbies and sports. Or here’s an idea, time to do something that makes you money. I never receive checks from the television stations for watching re-runs of MASH or Seinfield. In fact, I rarely even remember the next day anything I watched the night before.
Active Meditation / Visualization
January 22, 2008
Part One
Choose a nature scene. For instance scenery of mountain, meadow or ocean to picture and imagine during your session. You might consciously choose a particular scene and find that when you close your eyes and relax a different scene pops into your mental vision. That is fine, go with the new scene but once you have started the meditation stay with that scene for that session. Choose whatever scenery accommodates your feelings for that day.
Allow your eyes to close.
Exhale contracting the abdomen gently.
Inhale by expanding the lower abdomen like it was a balloon. Inhale, Inhale, Inhale, Inhale And exhale contracting the abdomen gently
Breathe slowly and rhythmically Observe how the body releases tightness with every exhalation
Continue inhaling and exhaling being aware on the inhale that the oxygen is relaxing your muscles from your toes to scalp as well as deep to your core
Relaxation flowing deep, deep, deep right to the space between your atoms
Watch the breath like it is a wave that is breathing you
Feel relaxation deepen with every breath as if your body is spreading and melting out
Observe the breath happening
Eating for Health, Happiness and Successful Weight Control
January 21, 2008
Don’t diet, just eat and lose weight!
First, the following “diet” is really not a diet, in the conventional sense, but a natural way of eating. It allows one to eat essentially anything one wishes, while attaining weight loss or weight control goals and consuming the necessary nutrients for a long and healthful life. The term “diet” implies restrictions by either eliminating or radically reducing the intake of certain foods or food groups. Most diets are inappropriate, unhealthful (some are even dangerous) and ultimately doomed to fail.
The most important objective of eating any food is to provide the body with all the essential nutrients for a long and healthful life. Almost every food provides some element needed by your body. If you do not care about being healthy, avoiding sickness and disease and living a long life, then this natural way of eating is not for you. The second most important reason for eating any food is because you enjoy it and it makes you happy. It is highly unlikely that you will consistently, and for long term, eat foods that you do not enjoy. Similarly, it is extremely unlikely that you will be able to completely eliminate foods that you do enjoy from your diet.
Why Is Vitamin B6 So Important?
January 20, 2008
Vitamin B6 is the hardest working nutrient in the human body, but it is the most common vitamin deficiency in the human diet. It is estimated that one third of all adults have Vitamin B6 deficiency, with more women than men suffering from the deficiency.
How Does Vitamin B6 Work?
Pyridoxine ? Vitamin B6 ? is an essential nutrient required for life. It functions primarily as a "coenzyme," which is to act as a catalyst for other enzymes that need proper assistance to complete their job. Neurotransmitters, proteins, and red blood cells all require Vitamin B6 in order to be formed; and it is also required for the metabolism of foods into energy. Research is showing the Vitamin B6 may play a crucial role in disease prevention and treatment.
Along with Folic Acid and Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6 has been shown to help the body reduce homocysteine, an amino acid-like compound that is being studied for its relationship to an increase in heart disease.
Vitamin B6 also plays many other important roles in the body . . .
Practical Stress Management — 7 Spiritual Solutions
January 20, 2008
Stress is amazingly persistent, even seductive. We get used to feeling tight and tense. Though positive thinking has its place, unless it is backed up by practical spiritual wisdom it tends to get overwhelmed and fade away.
Here are seven proven ways you can get a new handle on stress.
1. Control your REACTION with these 7 simple words.
The first step is to remain alert when people try to weigh you down with their nervous comments and attitudes.
The next step is to reply to the attempted attack: "I have nothing to say to that." This cuts off the contagious effect of the stressful assault. It blocks the tendency to accept and imitate depressing words from others. Your nature does not fall down to the level of the anxious remark, but remains high above it.
Negative people WANT to get you involved with their defeat, and this is a major method they use to do it. Your reply: “I have nothing to say to that” prevents them from drawing you in as their victim.

Is Zone Diet a Fad?

Is Zone Diet a Fad?
How do you recognize a fad diet? When I asked myself this question, some generous people hurried to offer me free, quick, easily digestible answers. I chose the top ten from the list, and decided to match them with the Zone diet’s most common features.
Health Castle offers “Ten signs of a fad diet”:
1. It promises massive weight loss (1 - 2 lbs per week)
Dr. Barry Sears is careful when he declares a standard weight loss on Zone diet. He considers that anything between 1 to 1,5 lbs per week is satisfactory. “It will be impossible to lose more than one to one point five pounds of fat per week. Anything over that is loss of retained water”, says Sears himself on his daily “Ask Dr. Sears” column at DrSears.com. FAD.
2. It does not suggest you that you consult with a registered dietician or nutritionist
“Any change in diet (for better or worse) will affect the metabolism of the drug(s) you are taking. Always consult with a physician before starting the Zone Diet or any other dietary plan”, says Dr. Sears in various interviews and discussion lists. Not FAD.
Natural Ways To Treat Depression

Natural Ways To Treat Depression
by: Gray Rollins
Depression is a medical condition that affects the mind, often leaving the person suffering from it feeling hopeless, without ambition and unable to focus. Left untreated, this condition can adversely affect academic achievement, family life, friendships and careers. People tend to seek help from a mental health professional who may prescribe mood balancing drugs. Most, however; use an alternative form of medicine for a more natural treatment in tandem with drug therapy. Milder cases of depression can be treated solely with natural remedies without the need for prescription drugs.
Therapy is a great way to restore balance in your life. Seeking help from others who have similar issues will provide a support system to discuss issues, understand symptoms, and develop techniques to feel better. Often talking is very cathartic and can help alleviate stress and loneliness, which may cause feelings of depression.
Animal Totems

What the Animals Tell Us
"I am the Sun’s son. I sit upon a turquoise horse At the opening of the sky" Navajo Horse Song
Each animal has its own nature, its own traits and is a representation of a power such as strength for the lion or speed for the jaguar. By learning about animal strengths or powers a Shaman comes to understand why people are attracted to certain favorite animals and repulsed by others. These attractions and repulsions actually become a tool that tells the Shaman what is needed or missing in a person’s life.
There was a woman who no matter how she tried, kept missing the boat, missing out on opportunities that would have brought her the abundance and connections she needed to succeed. In hindsight she could see every instance in which she had failed to recognize the chance to get ahead. It was very frustrating for her but she could not find a way to break out of this rut.
The Cheapest Way To Stop Eating Junk Food and Start Finding Your Ideal Weight Again
January 15, 2008
Your health is your responsibility. As a human being, you have the choice to put in your stomach whatever you want. It is YOU and only you that can choose what you want or not to eat. In other words, it is YOU who chooses to be slim and fit or not. That is your choice. You need to take 100% responsibility of the way you eat. That’s the beginning of your success.
Now, you’ll say: “I can’t, it is stronger than me” or “look at this cake, I can’t leave it alone. It needs to be eaten.” or “It is so good, another one please!”. The question is: “Why do you eat?” Is it for pleasure or for fuel? After all, food is just food, but the emotion we attach to food is so strong that we tend to eat for pleasure or for an emotional reward.
When you eat junk food, subconsciously you say YES! to it. Let’s learn another word: NO! Most of us said, “No!” quite well when we were two and we have grown up to be people pleasers and say “YES!” all the time. Most of us believe that saying “No” can cost us a lot in our adult life.
