How to Curb Carbohydrate Cravings!

February 13, 2008

As a weight loss mentor it never ceases to amaze me how people inadvertently set themselves up for a huge snack attack mid afternoon. For many, the set up is so complete that it is almost impossible to control! The result is that people think they are weak-willed and lacking in discipline. Often the answer has little to do with character or determination. More often the reason for the mid afternoon carbohydrate cravings is due to gaps in understanding how our body works and responds to diferent types of food. Read on to see what you can do to control those mid afternoon cravings.

Trigger foods

If you want to control those cravings there are a few principles you must be aware of. The first is concerning trigger foods. Nutritional research has documented, carbohydrates trigger the brain to crave more carbohydrates, leading to a cycle of carbohydrate eating that becomes hard to control. Trigger foods keep you fat. The goal is to have control over these foods rather than allowing them to have control over you.

 by: Lael Johnson

A journal headshot (a short entry) provides a quick picture of yourself at anytime of the day. You can use it as a quick check of where you are during a break. You can also use it as a beginning journal entry, if you are just starting to journal. You can also write a series of journal headshots for a week or so. Then reread them and see if you discover any patterns in your thoughts, feelings, actions or perceptions. Keep this exercise handy for use at any time.

Using Yoga to Manage ADD

February 11, 2008

Exercise is a powerful tool for ADD management. Medical professionals recommend that adults get at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise (such as running or biking) 3-5 times per week to improve their general health. For ADDers, this type of exercise is particularly beneficial, because it may balance production of neurotransmitters and reduce stress levels. Another form of exercise that ADDers are finding valuable is yoga. When practiced regularly, yoga offers numerous health benefits, such as increased strength and flexibility, and decreased blood pressure and cholesterol levels. However, the greater benefits of yoga are arguably the psychological ones. Yoga combines physical activity with self-awareness, which promotes a mind-body connection that many ADDers lack.

When ADDers report challenges with impulsivity and hyperactivity, they often describe feeling like they don’t have control over their own bodies. They find themselves speaking before thinking their thoughts through, and often regret their words. They constantly fidget, unaware that their bubbling energy can be disruptive to others in work and social situations. And they feel as if they simply cannot stop the whirlwind of thoughts spinning in their heads.

Why Stress Management Programmes Don?t Work

February 10, 2008

Why Stress Management programmes don’t work?

It seems that every week there’s yet another report telling us how serious the problem of Stress is becoming ? how many working days are lost (anything between 6.5 million and 90 million days depending on whose report you read), how much it costs industry, what percentage of workers experience Stress, and so on. And despite the publicity, nothing seems to be changing. If anything, Stress seems to be becoming even more widespread, and at an alarming rate.

So why are things getting worse instead of better, and why don’t Stress Management programmes seem to work?

From an individual perspective, managing Stress is a bit like getting fit. There are people whose idea of getting fit is to walk down to the bookshop, buy a book on fitness and exercise, take it home and read it? and do nothing. Or even worse, not even walk to the bookshop at all but buy it on the Internet! People can only get fit by exercising ? getting fit means taking action.

Enthusiasm

Enthusiasm
 by: Arthur Buchanan

What exactly is this thing we call enthusiasm? If I decide to do this will I get it? That really depends on how much effort you put into it. If you just go at it half hardly then your results will very with the person. If you give it your all then things will change and people will want to start to come around you.

Have you ever heard of the one percent club? This is the one percent of the population and do you know what separates them from the rest? That’s right enthusiasm, happiness, joy to be around, always seems to be the life of the party and the list could go on and on.

Why is enthusiasm so important? If you do anything and you add enthusiasm to it and you do it with all your heart and give it a great effort, this will not fail! Let me put it this way I have seen this method used by countless successful individuals and I have yet to see it not work for anyone who has honestly tried and gave it their all!

Improper pH Balance Increases Risk and Damage of Diabetes

February 9, 2008

THE RISK

Blood sugar balance is critical to your body’s proper functioning. Blood sugar (glucose) is the primary source of fuel for the body’s cells and is particularly critical to the brain and the eyes. When glucose isn’t regulated properly through the bloodstream, the body’s cells don’t obtain the energy they need. Excessively high blood sugar (hyperglycemia, or diabetes) or excessively low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) prevents organs from working properly and leads to a decline in health.

The body’s blood sugar level is regulated primarily by the pancreas and the liver. The liver stores excess glucose and releases it when needed. The pancreas secretes insulin that helps carry glucose into the body’s cells, and it secretes glucagon that triggers the release of stored glucose in the liver. When either organ fails to function properly, blood sugar becomes excessively high or low and the cells begin to "starve."

A highly acidic pH level puts the pancreas, liver, and all the body’s organs at risk. Because of the important role played by the liver in removing acid waste from the body, liver function is particularly at risk when acids accumulate. When acidity prevents the liver and pancreas from regulating blood sugar, the risk of diabetes increases.

Spirit and the Law of Cause and Effect

February 8, 2008

Most of our troubles are bought about by exercising our own free will.

If you have a war, there will be many people, who will ask, Why does the Great Spirit not stop it? Why does the Great Spirit not try to prevent it?

The actual truth is that the people of the world are to blame. They choose to ignore the laws. We cannot escape the consequences of our actions. You cannot alter the law of spirit. What has been sown must be harvested. If you have used selfishness, you must accept the results. Pride, jealousy, envy, greed, malice, distrust and suspicion all these things, when they fructify produce war, distress and decay.

Therefore, people might ask is "free will" limited, in the sense that there are definite tendencies of events in relation to individuals.

We all have tendencies and vibrations that we do not let go. Everyone is surround by radiations and influences, many of which can affect your destiny.

When your "free will" is used correctly, it allows you to conquer all that stands in your way of the fullest expression of that part of the spirit that is within you. Because you are spirit and spirit is you.

Adult Halloween Costumes for Mature Trick or Treating!

February 7, 2008

Getting the kids dressed up for Halloween can be a highlight of the autumn season. Dressing up in costume has been a tradition for many cultures of the world for a variety of reasons. But it’s not just for the children anymore.

There are many reasons for adults to enjoy the fun of dressing up in their own costumes. Take Mardi Gras, for example. Participants spend all year creating an alternative identity. They will frolic in the streets in celebration of the coming of spring, or to enjoy the free flowing kegs and endless parades.

Another traditional costume party event is the masquerade ball. Lost in time, this gala created a flirtatious evening for the high society with a kiss-and-don’t-tell theme.

Today’s costume parties are probably a little closer to either the Mardi Gras or Halloween celebrations. It is fun to dress in costume, while assuming a surrogate self. Participants can do things they wouldn’t ordinarily try to get away with.

You may wonder how you are going to acquire the right costume attire for your occasion. You may choose the retail route, or decide to create your own if you have the ability.
