Know the Signs of Depression and Improve Your Life

July 23, 2008

Typical signs of depression actually show a change in the way a person has come to think about himself.

“I just can’t get myself to do any work around the house. My marriage is falling apart.”

“My hair is thinning. I’m losing my looks. No one will care about me anymore.”

These are typical thoughts of people who are depressed and show a change in thinking, feeling and acting.

Here are other signs of depression :

Continual feelings of sadness, emptiness and helplessness that seem to have no cause

Loss of interest or pleasure in ordinary activities

Decreased energy, fatigue

Sleep and/or eating problems

Difficulty concentrating and making decisions

Feelings of guilt, worthlessness and helplessness

Irritability, excessive crying

Chronic physical aches and pains that do not go away

Feelings of hopelessness

Thoughts of death or suicide, or suicide attempts

If a person shows several of the above signs of depression for an extended period (2 weeks or more) he should consult a physician.

Get Back Weight Loss Motivation with NLP: Setting an Anchor

NLP Setting an Anchor Process to Get Back Motivation for Losing Weight

A client recently wrote saying, “When I was losing the weight I felt so good about my exercise and weight loss I actually considered going into the health field. I want to get that [feeling] back!”

It can be easier than you think to “get that feeling back.” That’s exactly the type of situation when you’d want to use the NLP process known as setting an anchor.

How to Set an Anchor

Start by just daydreaming about how it felt back then. Jot down notes if you can. Then answer these type questions (feel free to ask any questions you like).

How did it feel overall? Is there anywhere on your body you felt it strongly? What kind of feeling was it? Strong, mild, fluttery, tingling? What? Do everything you can to recreate exactly how it was for you back then.

How were you sitting or standing? How did you carry yourself?

What did you hear from others? Compliments? Encouragement?

Do you remember anything negative? Write it down.

Thong Fascination: Just Another Way to Tease The Boys, or a Glimpse Into The Future?

July 21, 2008

They say that the thong is much more comfortable to wear than other panties; it just takes a little time to get adjusted to them. They will sell the fact that panty lines are not as apparent as they once were, making pants fall with a sleek line and no interruptions.

But where has the fascination come from? Just because a song about the thong was released shouldn’t have had to much influence on the fad.

The true reason that men are fascinated by the thong is the opportunity they may be spotted in a glimpse at a most unsuspecting moment. Men are turned on by visual images, making the thong quite a turn on. It gives men something to think about.

The same was true in the days of old, when women wore long dresses that almost completely covered them up. Men would get a glimpse of the skin and they were immediately interested. Nothing much has changed, only the acceptable attire. Men continue to imagine what could be beyond the undergarments.

Just the shape of the thong is sexy. It has minimal fabric and hugs the body’s sensuous shape. The thong falls on the natural lines of the body and highlights its unique one-of-a-kind form.

Spiritual Growth: Measures for How Youre Doing

July 20, 2008

In my yard are quarter-circles of grass growing taller than the rest. There ’s also a 12-foot circle with no grass. What explains these phenomena? Alien laser blasts? A Martian landing site? No. The arcs are where we threw lawn fertilizer, and the circle is where the above-ground pool stood. Whether growth is fast, slow, or non-existent, the difference is easy to discern.

Paul tells his opponents to stop using worldly yardsticks instead of God’s (2 Cor. 10:12). By a worldling’s measure, Paul seemed a failure, but in God’s eyes he was a glorious conqueror. By what standards should we measure spiritual progress?

  • Spiritual diet: meat vs. milk (1 Cor. 3:1-2). Am I learning more of God’s Word, going broader and deeper than ever before? Or am I just rehashing what I’ve known for years, or worse yet, not reading and studying at all?

  • Spiritual model: Jesus Christ (Eph. 4:13). We measure our growth not by comparing ourselves with others, but with Christ. My life is guided not just by WWJD (what would Jesus do?), but also by WWJT (think) and WWJB (be). It is not just actions but also thoughts and motives that measure maturity.

  • Eliminate The Stutterings

    Eliminate The Stutterings
     by: James Masterson

Some people lose confidence upon facing other people due to a speech problem known as stuttering. This is a severe condition in speech that experiences problems in fluency. Its symptoms include the person’s facial muscles becoming tensed as he or she tries to speak. This is very common to children who are just beginning to talk. Stuttering is a disfluency that causes them to repeat some of their words’ syllables. Although this is normal, the severity can cause concern for some parents.

This speech problem starts in the early childhood while they are at their developing stage and some would stutter at least ten to fifteen per cent of their total speech. Though, this does not affect one’s intellect, it affects one’s social state, especially when they begin to date and mingle with other people. It is for this reason that others would opt to be loners and just choose a career that does not involve meeting people.

There are inconsistent degrees of stuttering. Some people do not stutter when they do other special skills like dancing or singing or even delivering a declamation piece. There are also those who do not stutter on good days but just start to stutter on other days.

How NOT to Return from an Exercise Break

    July 18, 2008

Several sites, including this one, recommend that you take a break every 8 weeks after working out with weights. But how do you come back from that break and get back into your routine?

Does anyone suggest you just jump back in and do the same intensity as when you last left off? Definitely not.

This article will share a personal insight that I’m positive many people have faced when returning from a break or an injury. It will answer the question: how should I return to my workout after a week’s break from anything but relaxation?

Every 8 weeks I take a complete break from the weights. This allows my joints to recover, my body to heal, and gives me time to think about the next 8 weeks and my objectives. Upon returning to the gym you can take one of two approaches. Return full speed ahead, since you’ve had the rest, with the same intensity and the same weights. Or you can ease your body back into the program and reestablish the mind-to-muscle link that you have probably read about. (I suggest the second approach.)

How to Design the Perfect Diet

    July 18, 2008

All Diets Are Based on the Same Premise: Eat Less Calories and You’ll Lose Weight

Diets come in all sizes and flavors and all tend to rely on the formula of less calories, despite their claims to the contrary. The Peanut butter diet is low calorie with some peanut butter at every meal. The Cabbage Soup diet is unlimited amounts of cabbage soup but how much cabbage soup can you really have before you’re sick of it, meaning you’ll eat less calories? The Atkins Diet, SouthBeach diet even Weight Watchers all are based on the idea that you’ll consume less calories than your body requires, hence you’ll lose weight. No one at Atkins estimated people would eat two pounds of cheese and a pound of bacon every day, yet some people do just that and then are alarmed when their weight loss stalls.

My present diet includes a small piece of chocolate cake and a quarter pint of Haagen Daz most every night

Management Training to aid the Trouble with Sarcasm

Management Training to aid the Trouble with Sarcasm
     by: Richard L. Williams, Ph.D.

Among the various styles that people use to communicate with each other, sarcasm is one of the most unique and dangerous. The excuses people use in an attempt to explain away their use of sarcasm varies from, “I didn’t know I was doing it,” to “It’s how I get someone’s attention.” Whatever the excuse, and whatever the reason, sarcasm is a deadly communication style that rarely has long-term success and commonly results in contempt from the person who receives it. It’s easy to say, “Stop doing it,” but it’s far more difficult to pinpoint what caused a person to begin being a sarcastic communicator in the first place.

Stated very simply, a person who uses sarcasm to gain effect is nothing more than a verbal bully. Think of the playground bully you experienced as a child in school. The person tried to create terror in the minds of playmates in order to gain some type of power or social advantage. The sarcastic verbal bully, using words rather than physical threats, is also trying to gain some type of advantage over the other person. And it’s the realization that a sarcastic communicator is trying to gain an unfair advantage that causes the receiver to form feelings of contempt.

Stationary Exercise Bikes - Still A Top Choice For Overall Fitness

In all the craze over new fangled fitness equipment, the exercise bike often gets overlooked. Stationary exercise bikes have been around for many years, which can lead some people to think they are outdated or not as effective as newer types of equipment. But for many people, exercise bikes provide a fun, consistent, reasonable means of exercising, improving cardio functions, and losing weight.

Stationary exercise bikes provide all the benefits of riding a bicycle. They provide good cardio workouts, have much less impact on knees, hips and other joints than walking or running, and can be used at any time it’s convenient. Most stationary bikes have manual or computerized controls to allow you to adjust resistance and speed. Many also come with heart monitors and cardio workouts already programmed in. There is a huge selection of price and style, and stationary bikes tend to be the most affordable cardio exercise machine. Plus, with a stationary bike, you don’t have to worry about traffic, dogs, or bad weather. You can exercise in the convenience of your own home and even watch television or read a book while you bike. Try doing that on the bike path at the park!

Protect Your Body and Slow Down Aging With Antioxidants

    July 15, 2008

The Challenge of Free Radicals to Your Body

Your body is under constant attack–not only from pathogens of all kinds–but also, at the molecular level, from “free radicals.” Free radicals are unstable molecules that result inevitably from the oxidation of nutrients in your body to produce energy. If they are not effectively counteracted, they systematically damage the cells of your body. This accelerates aging and can ultimately lead to many chronic degenerative diseases, such as cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, cataracts, and arthritis.

Just as your immune system defends your body against various kinds of pathogens, your main defense against free radical damage is the antioxidant defense system. This consists of a group of compounds that effectively disarm free radicals before they attack your tissues.

They accomplish this disarming action by engulfing free radicals and then joining their molecular structure. Although this results in the new molecule becoming a free radical itself, it is much weaker than the original free radical and is, thus, much less likely to cause harm to the cells of your body. So this is a classic instance of “when you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
