The World Revolves Around Me

July 14, 2008

Lately I have become aware of a new truth that is formulating in my life.

After years of study in New Age and New Thought a new awareness of self is emerging. I created this site to pass on any new wisdom I may have gained to those that may receive benefit from it. Many times over the last year that wisdom has been reflected back to me by others that I have brought into my life either physically or from this site.

I am here alone; I have created my world and the circumstances of it. I am talking to myself and bringing awareness to myself in all that I do, I do for self. I am planting seeds along the way and return to reap the harvest every now and then. Those that I believe I am helping are helping me. They in truth are me in different physical bodies. They are my soul mates that are here in an exchange program that we are involved with.

Why Advice Doesn’t Work

Why Advice Doesn’t Work
 by: Cameron Elliott

Lucy felt trapped. It was nearing 3 am, and despite spending the last 8 hours at the library, she’s made absolutely zero progress on her music history paper. She still has a half- completed stats assignment that was due yesterday, but Lucy can’t worry about that until she finishes her paper and studies for tomorrow’s child development exam.

The next day after failing the exam the next day, Lucy was required to meet with her professor who told her that she needed to study harder and do better on the upcoming midterm. That night, Lucy was 15 minutes late to her job as waitress, a common occurrence. Her boss scolded her for being late and questioned her dedication to the cafe. Diana, Lucy’s best friend, said Lucy needed a better work-life balance.

Telling Lucy to work on her study skills or to work harder is no better than telling the homeless they need jobs, or telling an alcoholic to stop drinking; this advice fails on two counts: It’s short-sighted and insulting.

When Losing Weight Seems Hopeless

July 13, 2008

Sometimes it’s good to just let the feelings flow. Take out a piece of paper and just start writing your feelings down on paper. I do this when I start to feel overwhelmed. We all have certain tendencies and mine is to put too much on my place (food or otherwise), then when I’m upset because I have too much (to eat, too much to do), I feel hopeless. It’s too much to handle, and I just don’t know what to do.

First write down some ideas for using with EFT, starting with whatever is on your mind:

I waste time Wish I wouldn’t Can’t help it Can’t seem to lose this weight I’m getting bigger by the minute It’s hopeless Makes me want to eat Hate this

Exercise: Deep breath in, imagine a stream of golden light coming in to energize and feed you, then as you exhale imagine blowing all the negative energy associated with the first item on your list (”I waste time”) out in a conscious stream in a dark colored stream. Maybe you exhale bubbles that then explode as they’re floating away. It feels good to breath in energy and exhale toxins.

How To Have Fun With Speeches

How To Have Fun With Speeches
 by: James Masterson

While most people consider speaking in public worse than a death sentence, it does not have to be so. In fact, public speaking can be a fun and fruitful endeavor in the hands of a speaker with the right mindset.

And the first agenda when it comes to public speaking is to approach it in terms of having fun.

How can you ever have fun speaking to a large audience hanging on to your every word and gesture, you say? The answers are simple.

Here are a few tips to get you started.

1. Choose a subject near and dear to your heart. There is no better supplier of knowledge than experience. Your audience knows when you just read off a book and when you’re speaking from having been there yourself.

Frankly speaking, unless you speak with emotional involvement with the subject, you cannot endear yourself to your audience. The audience looks for it, wants to know that whatever they are learning from you is worth their time and effort to listen to.

Get Organized

Get Organized
 by: Paul Hegarty

Why should you get organized? Getting organized gives you the ability to achieve balance in your life. Getting organized allows you to see what you are doing and how much time you spend doing it. Getting organized will help you to relieve stress because you will know where you stand. Getting organized will give you the opportunity to achieve your goals. Getting organized will help you to deal with challenges with ease. We are busy people these days and getting organized can give us more time.

To start to get organized allot some time to sit down and plan. If you keep running around like a dog chasing its tale you will never get organized. So let’s begin with one hour. In this hour we are going to start to devise a plan. I would rather call the plan an outline so as to allow for flexibility. Start your plan with how you start your day Monday through Sunday. To initiate this rather than writing down what you would like to do, for the first week just keep a diary and see what you are actually doing.

Yoga for Relaxation

Discover the true meaning of yoga?

In taking any modern yoga class, you will find parallels to ballet. Like ballet, the promise of poise, grace and flexibility encourages much interest. Yet if yoga is like any other exercise, it is only at first glance. Underneath the coveted health and fitness benefits of modern yoga practice are the roots of a great spiritual tradition blending cultures and religions.

Unfortunately, through the westernization of yoga, we have lost an essential component of this peaceful practice. Though the ritual remains intact the meaning has gone astray. Where previously the postures of yoga practice were merely a branch of a tree; today they are viewed by western society as the tree itself. How do we bring meaning to our poses?

Modern Yoga’s Roots and Benefits

Though the development of yoga cannot be pinned to an exact year, the discovery of the Indus seals, which show figures in the classic yoga asana (posture) of lotus pose, trace yoga back to at least 3000 BCE. At this time the Vedas were being written, which today’s yoga postures are derived from. These gave birth to Vedic yoga, which accommodated the ancient Indians fixation on ritual and sacrifice. We see evidence of the importance of sacrifice in the yogic corpse posture. Lying as though we were placed in a coffin, this represents the ultimate sacrifice-that of death. Though seemingly morbid, corpse posture is one of hope when we understand that according to the Vedanta sutras, death results in liberation

The Health Risks Associated With The Use Of Anabolic Steroids

July 9, 2008

Anabolic steroids are classed as illegal drugs and are banned by most legitimate sports organizations. There can be no disputing the fact that testosterone boosts the development of muscle mass and aids sporting performance. Equally there is no doubt that its use can adversely affect the health and wellbeing of users.

The androgenic properties of testosterone can affect the body in many ways but often users see these as inconveniences that can be treated by using other drugs. The most common side effects of testosterone supplementation include the following:

1. Testicle shrinkage - the body responds to testosterone overload by reducing its own production of the hormone. This causes the testicles to shrink due to lack of use. When steroid usage stops, the testicles will grow again but they could take at least six months to return to normal size.

2. Addiction - despite some users trying to convince themselves otherwise, the use of steroids can result in physical and psychological addiction. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe with muscle shrinkage, weakness and loss of libido.

Penthouse or Basement? The Spiritual Realm is Topsy-Turvy

July 8, 2008

Am I dreaming? The sign outside the skyscraper reads: "Spiritual Realm." I hurry straight to the elevator. "Up, please," I tell the operator.

She looks confused? "Up? You want to go up?"

"Certainly!" I swallow my annoyance. "To the top." The elevator starts ascending rapidly. I fidget.

"Isn’t it getting stuffy in here?" I remark.

She shrugs. "Yeah. A/C cuts off past the 30th floor." Ding! "Penthouse." As the doors open, a rush of heat invades the elevator.

I scream, "Shut it, quick!" Just before the doors close, I notice the sign: SATAN CORPORATION–and just below it: HERE YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE.

We fall rapidly. In moments the A/C kicks back on.

"I don’t understand. I thought God would be at the top, but it’s Satan. What gives?"

"Didn’t you check the directory in the lobby?" the operator answers. "God’s offices are in the basement."

"The basement?"

"Yup. Offices here are assigned according to hubris."

"Hubris? I’m not familiar with the term."

"It means ‘wanton arrogance resulting from excessive pride.’"

"I see. So because God and His associates are low in hubris…"

"…they’re in the basement."

Help me, Im Addicted to Sugar

July 8, 2008

A client wrote, “Help me! I thought I was finally getting a handle on my weight issue but the sugar is killing me. I had an awful day. I won’t even tell you what I ate today because it is just so unbelievable. All I will say is that 90% of my food today consisted of sugar! I really, really need some help getting past these cravings. I am no doubt a sugar addict. If I could get past this there is no doubt that I will reach my goal.”

If you see a little of yourself in this message, you’re not alone. Tens of thousands of people describe themselves as sugar addicts. They believe if it were only for that one thing, then they could reach their weight loss goals. If you believe only one thing stands in your way of losing weight, consider this: What if that one thing (an addiction to sugar for instance) were gone? Do you really believe, “If I could get past this, there is no doubt that I will reach my goal,” or is it an easy excuse to stay stuck?

7 Healthy Ways To Release Holiday Stress

July 7, 2008

Many people go through the motions during Christmas. If not the whole holiday season just parts. I see them slumped in line, not a smile to be found, their body stiff, just counting the number of people ahead of them, and time. Gift giving or even receiving is right, wrong, good, bad, or considered a waste. The control of it all, tightens the body, encompasses the soul, and buries the magic. Where is the release or where do we begin? It starts mindfully with a choice, movement in the body, and a change of spirit. Resolve to release the stress of it all, the need for control, the right, or the wrong. Stand tall, smile, talk to your neighbor, give them the acknowledgment just like you want and deserve whether it’s one minute or more.

1. Lower back release. Stand facing a wall. Palms flat against the wall, arms stretched, body angled straight, bend one knee, and place it closer to the wall. Bend gentle towards the wall. Close your eyes and see the tension in your back. Envision it as a light. Mindfully move that light down your legs out into the floor. If the light prefers, let it travel through the arms into the wall. It doesn’t matter, just that it goes. What is so nice about this release is there is usually a wall available anywhere you go or you can use this release in the shower at home.
