Are Your Co-Workers Making You Fat? Avoiding Unexpected Treats

Taming the See Food Eat Food Response

What happens when you’re just minding your business and suddenly someone walks by with a delicious looking cake, muffins, or some other goodie you weren’t expecting. You weren’t hungry a minute ago but now you are suddenly ravenous. So you jump up and rush to get yours before it’s all gone. After you get back to your desk and a few minutes go by, what happens? You suddenly realize you want more. Your stomach may be growling in fact. You can still see those muffins in your mind’s eye. You want them. A few minutes pass while you debate, “I want another, No, I shouldn’t, but, I really want one, they sure tasted good. If I don’t hurry they might all be gone, what about your diet, who cares? I’m getting one,” and off you go.

Frustrating, isn’t it? All you need is a plan for when the unexpected food suddenly drives you to eat. It’s not like this isn’t going to happen time and again, so having a way to deal with it, in that moment, is better than simply being swept up in the wave of wanting. The old pattern of see food, want food, eat food, get angry about eating food, eat more to get over feeling angry, get angrier, give up, eat more. This cycle generally ends when you either pass out or the food is gone. It doesn’t have to be this way.

The Fastest and Most Powerful Affirmation

The Fastest and Most Powerful Affirmation
 by: Rebbie Straubing

“There is nothing that you cannot be or do or have.”

– from the teachings of Abraham-Hicks*

This fully empowering declaration can manifest through you in infinite ways. It can put food on your table, love in your home, wisdom in your words, a car in your garage, and can bring you anything else your heart desires. It all comes down to a matter of alignment. Your desires and your beliefs must match up. Once they do, you become virtually unstoppable.

One powerful tool for manifestation is the use of affirmation. Since we understand this manifestation process as a product of our alignment, it’s valuable to look at the practice of repeating affirmations through the lens of alignment. Then we can see clearly why affirmations work sometimes and not others.

If your affirmations are not working, consider this:

====> Saying words that you do not believe, even though you want them to be true, perpetuates a misalignment.

=> Example: You Affirm a higher income than you believe is possible and then feel inner conflict or inadequacy during your affirmation practice.

Home Exercise Equipment ? Choosing the Proper Equipment For Your Workout Routine

September 28, 2008

The fitness industry has become big business as more and more people work out to get in shape. Many companies have gotten onboard the bandwagon, and the number of different types and brands of home exercise equipment available is amazing. While it is great to have options, trying to figure out which piece of home fitness equipment is right for you can be an overwhelming process. One way to help manage all this information is to identify what type of exercise or training you plan to do. Add in other factors such as your personal fitness level, budget, and space available and pick the equipment that best fits your criteria.

What Is Your Goal?

Before purchasing an exercise bike, treadmill or other type of home fitness equipment, it is important to decide what it is you hope to accomplish. Are you trying to lose weight? Perhaps you want to get in shape, tone your muscles? Maybe you want a good cardio workout? Or you may have several of these results in mind. Exercise equipment varies in its effectiveness in certain areas and by knowing what you want from your workout, you will be able to focus on those that do what you want.

Store Bought Vitamins - Synthetic?

September 27, 2008

Did you know that most store bought vitamins and minerals are synthetic and are hard on your liver and kidneys? Have you noticed that if you do take store bought vitamins that you switch the brands like switching shampoos?

Think about how a cell works. If someone was suffering from scurvy, all they had to do was eat an orange and the body would immediately recover because the cells recognized that copper is the center of vitamin C and that it has all of it’s bioflavinoids surrounding it and just one tiny arm of the copper is vitamin C.

When you buy synthetic vitamin C, you are only absorbing a maximum of 15% or you may have one of those products where the label is inconsistent with what is actually in the vitamin.

Did you know that your cells will cannibalize a neighboring cell to try and make sense out of the synthetic vitamins in order to absorb it? Not good when you consider your cells assimilate food, not rocks and minerals mined from the earth.

Make sense?

Creating Our Own Emotional Chaos

September 26, 2008

It’s amazing how - even when we’re working from a “higher vision” - we still see the people, the events and the circumstances in our lives with the same perspective: our own! It’s “only human” to always be able to see how right we are in any given situation, and it’s always difficult - and sometimes impossible! - to look at ourselves and our actions through the other person’s eyes. But if we really want to grow - if we really want to know who we are - then we have to be willing to look at ourselves a little more objectively - a little more realistically - then we’re used to doing, and we have to be willing to accept responsibility - both for the way we express ourselves emotionally, and for the effect we have on other people through that expression.

Seeing things only from our own perspectives is a pretty emotional stance in itself; it’s an easy way to protect ourselves from other people’s thoughts and other people’s feelings. Whatever emotion we may use to justify our behavior, life is always easier if we have someone else to blame when things aren’t running smoothly. Whether we blame the other person, or fate, or life itself, it “feels better” if whatever is happening isn’t our fault!

Weight Loss: Its Not Always What You Eat, But What You Dont Eat

September 26, 2008

On a little island half way in between Guam and the Philippines there is a rampant epidemic affecting the inhabitants. This tiny island of approximately 8,200 people is not afflicted with famine or a deadly disease as you might think when talking about an epidemic… the islanders are dying at much earlier ages that at any other time in their history. They have alarmingly high rates of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Why?

Well, the people on this island used to make their living by farming, growing bananas and coconut and lots of fishing. They used to walk everywhere, eat fresh fruits and vegetables and had lots of daily activity.

Now, with the introduction of “western culture” and the destruction of their normal behavior, the islanders now drive to their computer jobs in mostly cramped offices and eat a diet of highly processed “prepared” foods imported from the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

As you can see, exporting the “American diet” of quick and easy processed food and lack of activity has taken a healthy and active island population, and turned it into a mini version of America, along with the associated rates of obesity and disease.

Sex in History

September 25, 2008

As we human beings have changed and evolved over our thousands of years of recorded history so have our attitudes and expressions of all things sexual. The only thing that hasn’t changed much is society’s desire to exercise a certain amount of control over an individual’s sexual behavior. Whether it be through church or state, educational institutions or popular media of the time, there have been rules and regulations, views and taboos about what we should do sexually, how we should do it, who we should do it with and even how we should think about doing it.

BODY PARTS

A particular area of interest, naturally, has been the body and specifically those parts that are obviously connected with sex. We’ve alternately hidden and displayed, worshipped and derided male and female genitalia.

In most non-Christian cultures there were gods and goddesses of power and fertility with exaggerated genitals. Some cultures liked penis gods so much they had several, for instance the ancient Greeks honored Priapus, Dionysus and Hermes. The Egyptians exalted Osiris, Bacchus was the Roman version, and Shiva reigned in India.

Self-Growth: Building Character And Integrity

Self-Growth: Building Character And Integrity
 by: Wendy Betterini

It’s been said that character is defined by what you do when you think no one is watching. What an illuminating concept that is.

Most of us have a public face and a private face. There are parts of ourselves we don’t want the world to see. Typically, we tend to hide the aspects that would not be viewed favorably by society. Greed, lust, jealousy, pettiness, fear and so on. We also tend to hide our weaknesses. No one needs to know that we can wolf down a gallon of ice cream in an hour, do they? ;-)

I think most people are “good” at their core; decent, loving, compassionate and kind. However, even those we perceive to be good people are capable of unspeakable acts. How many times have you heard a convicted murderer’s family member or friend say, “I just can’t believe he would be capable of something like that. It’s so unlike him.” The killer projected one identity to the world, while secretly he was someone else entirely.

Ayurveda and Yoga, Ancient Sister Sciences

September 23, 2008

Ayurveda and yoga are sister sciences that have been united for thousands of years for the sake of healing body, mind, and consciousness. Generally speaking, Ayurveda deals more with the health of the body, while yoga deals with purifying the mind and consciousness, but in reality they complement and embrace each other.

The ancient rishis (seers) were the original masters of all Vedic sciences. They understood that good health is a great asset on the path toward Self-realization. If the body is neglected it can easily become an obstacle to spiritual practice. Anyone who has practiced meditation for any length of time would agree to how difficult it can be to sit still for long periods of time without feeling discomfort and fatigue. Both yoga and Ayurveda are mutually supportive and offer many ways to prevent and heal various disorders as well as to cleanse and rejuvenate the body.

Besides sharing a philosophical foundation, both systems have many similarities in relation to attitude, nutrition, diet, hygiene, exercise, cleansing practices, as well as spiritual practices. Traditionally, a student of yoga would first live close to and serve the guru for many years, during which time he would learn healthy habits. The basic Ayurvedic principles for health and longevity were past on in the lineage in oral form to serve as a foundation for a life of sadhana (spiritual practice).

5 Steps To Your Brighter, Happier Future

5 Steps To Your Brighter, Happier Future
 by: Christopher Green

Are you longing to create a better life for yourself but in the dark about how to go about it? Here’s five empowering steps to light up the way to a brighter, happier, future.

1. The very first step is the step that most people just don’t want to do. Yet it is the single most important step of all. It’s about spending lots of time seriously thinking about what you want to do. I recommend at least thirty minutes but preferably an hour, each day to think about what you want to do with your time here on our beautiful planet. Your time here is finite. So set aside the time to think about how you want to spend it.

2. Make a decision to be your own guiding light. By this, I mean have the courage to follow what is in your heart. Seek out the path you truly want to follow and not a path others deem appropriate for you. Only you know what you truly want to do with your life. Be unique. Express yourself. Set free the creative spirit within you and be your own person. Sure this involves courage. Ronald Reagan puts it succinctly: “The future doesn’t belong to the faint-hearted, it belongs to the brave.” Gain strength from this.
