Super Sizing: Money Shrinks While Waist Lines Grow

October 23, 2008

“Your Eyes are Bigger Than Your Stomach”

“Your eyes are bigger than your stomach,” my mother said, which meant, “No, you can’t have a milk shake.” She didn’t think my 10-year old appetite was sufficient to finish all that food, and she was probably right. Her motivation had less to do with whether I’d eat it, and more to do with the cost of the meal. She hated the idea of wasting money if I left some food uneaten. I remember thinking, “Who cares if I don’t eat it all, I just want a milk shake!”

Some of us still carry that thinking, “Wasted food is wasted money,” but consider the opposite. If you paid for it, whether you eat it now is irrelevant. Now you can spend the food how ever you please whether it be by eating some, giving some away or even tossing it in the garbage, it’s now yours. The food belongs to you. You do not have to eat it to get your money’s worth.

The Far Realms of Computers and Self Improvement

The Far Realms of Computers and Self Improvement
 by: Bruce Ehrlich

Imagine a future in which your personal computer becomes a doorway into a world of enhanced intelligence and creativity, emotional stability and previously unrealized personal success. In this world, the computer has become more than just a word processor or a web browser; it has become both an instantaneous communication tool for contacting seminar leaders or personal therapists and an interactive councilor that uses artificial intelligence to provide personal coaching and wise guidance. Or even further in the future, computer aided methods of transformation of human consciousness. Could that colorful screen upon which you may be reading this become that door? This is a question that has intrigued those who have studies the potential of the PC, and the answer may be that this reality is closer than we realize.

So You Want To Build A Home Gym?

October 21, 2008

I walked into the commercial gym yesterday after a long day of work excited to begin my workout. After warming up I proceeded to the squat rack to start my resistance training workout. I unfortunately ran into a bit of a roadblock. I was planning on starting with some Back Squats but there was a young man in the power rack performing barbell biceps curls with horrible form (a definite no-no!).

I decided to go to Plan B and rearrange my workout only to find that the flat benches were all occupied as well. This trend continued and everywhere I turned the equipment I desired was being used. I was happy that so many people were working out but at the same time I was frustrated that my well-laid plans were spoiled. I learned a long time ago that it is wise to have a back-up plan in place for situations like this so I decided to head home and revert to Plan C, which was my home workout routine.

Stress Management Made Simple And Easy…Just Follow Cliff Kuhn M.D.s Foolproof Formula

October 21, 2008

Stress management is a hot topic; stress-related illness and suffering is at an all-time high in America and increasing every year. Cliff Kuhn, M.D.’s work with the powerful natural medicine of humor has uncovered the primary culprit behind your unhealthy stress symptoms, as well as the solution to simple, healthy stress management.

Astronomer-mathematician Ptolemy (85-165) devised a theory of planetary motions that placed the earth at the center of the universe. The sun, moon, and planets revolved around the earth in the Ptolemaic universe. This notion was accepted for approximately 1,500 years. More on this in a moment…

Shelly was in such need of stress management that she was unhappy much of the time. Shortly after she became my patient, I was able to help Shelly see that, just like Ptolemy’s theory, she was casting herself as the center of the universe, thereby causing unmanageable stress levels in her life. We began a regimen from my Fun Factor prescription that afforded Shelly proper stress management, reintroduced joy and happiness, and brought her life back into balance.

Actualizing Personal Truth

October 20, 2008

Self-actualization comes down to three basic premises: this is who I am, this is what I believe and the foundation on which my life is built, and this is the way I manifest that belief system on a daily basis.

If you say that you live by the Golden Rule, but treat other people with a lack of respect, then you are dishonest, and others will perceive you as hypocritical.

If you say that material things are not important to you, but are driven to success materially or are continually dissatisfied with your current financial status, then you are dishonest, and the world will perceive you as hypocritical.

If you say that you love your mate, and make conscious choices that do not take your mate’s wants, needs and desires into consideration, then you are dishonest, and the world will see you as hypocritical.

If you say that the family is the most important thing in your life, and yet make conscious choices that take you away from the family or inflicts stress upon the family, then the world will see you as dishonest and hypocritical.

How to Get Started on Permanent Weight Loss Program

Why We Start Diets on Monday

The biggest problem with any attempt at change is where to begin? There are so many things to think about, so many distractions, so many reasons why it won’t work. Have you ever noticed everyone seems to start a new eating plan on Monday? Why not start on Wednesday afternoon, or Friday morning for that matter?

We’ve grown up counting the days, weeks, and years off like worry beads. Birthdays mark one year older and wiser, New Year’s Eve marks a new beginning, the first day of the month and first day of the week; they all mark a new beginning. There is no reason you can’t simply decide to begin right here, right now. So, let’s start now. Really, I’m not kidding. You can decide to start at any time. You don’t need to wait until Monday. “But, I always start a new diet on Monday!” Ah, but this isn’t a diet, this is a lifestyle change. A lifestyle change isn’t about being ON or OFF a program, you are just living, and this is about beginning from this day forward, whether today is Tuesday or Saturday doesn’t matter.

Hurlock’s Study: Praise verses Criticism

Hurlock’s Study: Praise verses Criticism
 by: Dr. Richard L. Williams

Research studies can be intellectual, academic, difficult to understand, and sometimes even irrelevant to our specific application. But there are other studies that can be very insightful and help us understand how better to do our job. There is one such study that I would like to discuss in this month’s column. The information is so timely and connected to managing others that I think we all need to read and think about what the researchers discovered. The unique part of this study is that the researchers were not studying adults, but rather children. I know this may sound strange to you; however, what we learn from the study can be directly related to managing adults. So don’t get caught up thinking this study doesn’t relate to your job because the subjects were children.

In this case the people studied were fourth and fifth grade students and the situation was how they performed in a math class. The variables introduced by the researchers were the type of feedback the students received after they took math exercises and quizzes.

I’ve always taken pride in having an open mind …

So, when the invitation came to visit Uri Geller at his estate in the English countryside back in the summer of 1987, I couldn’t pass the opportunity to personally experience the phenomenon he represents and/or channels.

Uri Geller has made a career out of being controversial. His claims of possessing paranormal talents have not necessarily polarized opinions as much as the outrageous outlets by which he seemingly prefers to display them. For example, Geller has, at one time or another, alleged to have:

- bent spoons and keys merely by concentrating on them,

- made a soccer ball move just before a Scottish penalty kick was taken during an international match against England, causing the shot to be missed and victory assured for the English,

- stopped the hands of time on Big Ben,

- advised families that messages from the dead would appear to them in symbolic acts,

- sent disorienting mental signals to KGB agents at the request of the CIA, and

- healed people’s afflictions merely by being close to them.

Food Cravings: Use EFT to Learn Patience

Food Cravings: How to Practice Patience

During holidays and parties you may try to “plan ahead” so you can avoid some of the rush. Last year at Christmas I realized I had to take three major dishes for Christmas Eve dinner and it suddenly dawned on me that I’d have to bake the cake the night ahead.

Baking a cake then waiting to eat it is not my favorite thing at all. I’ve always had a difficult time in making a cake a day ahead, in fact I tend to avoid receipes that say it needs to sit eight hours. (Whenever you catch yourself saying the word “always” that’s a hint something to use EFT on is coming to mind and notice I said I always have a difficult time with this? That’s when to use EFT).

My past behavior has been to want to eat the cake as soon as it’s finished, so if it must wait for a day, it’s torture. I also prefer making huge three and four layer cakes that take up the entire refrigerator causing me to see the cake and nothing but the cake every time I open the refrigerator door.
